In use …

The Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby soother is a nightlight & bed time soother in one.  It features 4 popular lullabies and 4 soothing sounds; heartbeat, whitenoise, rainforest & crickets.

Out-of-the-box it’s pretty easy to use, it plugs straight into your powerpoint and it’s ready to go.  There’s lots of buttons on the back, they are pretty easy to use.  In addition to the melodies & soothing sound buttons, you’ll find a sound and light adjustment buttons and a timer for 15, 30, 45 & 60 minutes.

Turn your Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby soother on and it will automatically remember your last setting.  This is really useful when you are using it for feeding and want to switch it on without starteling your baby.

While we are talking about night feeds, the Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby soother provides just enough light for a night feed.  Then you can dim it so you just have enough light to check on your baby in the night.

The Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby soother also has a star projecting feature.  There’s a little lens on the top of the unit you can adjust so you can project the stars directly above your baby.

These type of night lights is effective as part of your baby’s sleep-time routine.  For infants, the white noise, heart beat sounds and star projections mimic the sounds and sights familiar to your baby in utero.  For older babies, a sound & light routine can act as a night-time sleep trigger.

The Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby soother is made of light-weight plastic for practicality but looks like the ceramic style night lights that are so popular at the moment.  The plastic has the advantage of being cool to the touch and makes the Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies soother safe if your toddler gets their hands on it.  It’s also shatter proof.

Consider this …

The Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Soother’s lullabies have that real ‘bing bong’ sound that’s commonly found on these types of products and baby bouncers.  It can drive parents crazy over time, however, babies seem to love them.

The power-on button is on the back so you have to pick up the soother when you want to turn it on or off.  It would be easier if the power switch was on the top or side of the unit so you could access it easier, especially if you’re holding your baby.

The verdict …

The Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Soother is a practical option for a night light for night checks and feeding.  The sound and lights are a great option for as a sleep aid from infancy.

At $79.95, it’s also reasonable priced and should last for many years or, more likely, many babies.
