The phil&teds parade carrier is designed for older babies & children and features an internal lightweight aluminium frame.   If offers a back carrying position and is suitable for your baby from the time they are sitting independently (about 6 months) to 18kg.

The parade carrier is made from waterproof synthetic fabrics and comes in blue/grey & orange/grey colour combos.

We love …

  • extended carrying for bigger babies
  • lots of comfort features
  • flat fold
  • independent stand

In use …

The first thing you notice about the phil&teds parade carrier is that, pulling it out of the box, it’s much lighter than you expect.  Weighing in at 2kgs, the phil&teds parade is bulkier than most carriers, but will accommodate your baby up to the very decent size of 18kgs.

The parade features two harness, one for you & one for your baby.  To get started, firstly adjust your harness to fit snugly, ensuring the waist strap goes around your hips, with the padding sitting just on your hips.  Then take your carrier off, add your baby & adjust their harness so they are safely secured, the stand on the parade allows it to stand independently while you do this.  Finally, grasp the little handle on top of the parade to help you hoist it onto your back, back pack style.

You’ll find lots of ergonomic/comfort features built into the parade including thick, padded shoulder & waist straps and a soft padded back that includes ventilation panels to keep you cool. How long you’ll feel comfortable carrying your child, though, will depend on the size of your child and your stamina.   The good news is that the parade is easy to swap between parents.

One of the things that allows the phil&teds parade to be used for longer periods of time for your baby is the sling style seat.  Not only does it help balance the heavier load, but it also supports your baby in a way that encourages blood flow to their legs.

The phil&teds parade gets the big thumbs up from our toddler tester.  He loved being at the same height as the adults around him and being in the midst of the action.  He had lots of to delighted things to ‘say’ about his new perspective.

There’s quite a bit of storage on the parade carrier.  Including expanding pockets on either side of the carrier, big enough to accommodate a bottle of water, wallets, keys & other essentials.  There’s also a little pack on the back, if you’re clever & compact, you could fit all your baby’s change needs in there.  Or, you can detach the pack & your toddler can wear it as a back pack.

The phil&teds parade folds flat for easy transport and storage when not in use.

Consider this …
The phil&teds parade carrier is designed for longer baby carrying, but there’s no head rest or hood for when your baby needs a snooze.  Also a hood would be great to keep the rain out.  It defeats the purpose of having a waterproof carrier if the rain can fall in on your baby.

How easy the parade is to get on and off your back depends on your upper body strength.  Our tester mum had a bit of difficulty hoisting it, whereas, our tester dad had no trouble at all.

The stand only stays open when the parade carrier is sitting on a surface.  So you can’t flip open the stand and put the carrier down on it.  You have to put the carrier down and hold open the stand at the same time.

I love the idea of the detachable toddlers backpack, but you have to permanently snip it off the carrier. Imagine how useful it’d be if you could reattach it or even if it had a clip & lead so it could also be used as a toddler harness.

Be a little cautious about what you place in the side pockets.  Your child can access them if they are crafty or curious (or both!).

The verdict …

The phil&teds parade carrier goes places no pram or stroller would dare to.  Use it as an alternative when you are travelling, need to get around busy and/or confined area or for a general day out.

Great for carrying my older Miss. She would think she wants ants pants being up so high.

  15. December 13, 2014 @ 5:11 pm AmberB

This looks fantastic – would really come in handy.

My two girls, miss 3.5 and miss 21 months both loved our baby carrier when they were small, miss 21 months still is small enough to be carried in it when she doesn’t feel like walking. I can see both of them absolutely loving this carrier, especially miss 3.5 as she really is a bit big for the baby carrier now! It would increase the distance our family could walk on hikes etc if we had one of these to carry either girl when/if they got tired!

I just love the idea of having a carrier designed for bub at a different stage in life that requires a different kind of carrier that grows with them! The super cute back pack that can come off so they can feel a little more independent is such a cute and smart feature! Being super compact it would allow me to literally take my little one on any journey that pops up! Even hiking or a trip to the park. Having a toddler already and a 10 month old this sure would get a it’s carry on!

  18. December 12, 2014 @ 5:14 pm krystal

This is super handy and with having a big or small family it would allow u to go anywear.

  19. December 9, 2014 @ 9:58 pm Trish W

I love that you can carry babies for longer, would be a perfect way to transition from the wrap I currently have! :)

  20. December 8, 2014 @ 9:17 pm Sarah

A great looking carrier. Good for when my toddler gets tired on long walks.

  21. December 8, 2014 @ 7:16 am Alison

  22. December 6, 2014 @ 9:56 pm Lisa Bartlett

Love the look of this carrier – I’d love to review it for the safety of my baby

  23. December 5, 2014 @ 8:39 pm Karina

When I travel alone to Europe to visit my family this carrier would make it easier for me to also handle luggage etc while not having him sit on my arm!

  24. December 5, 2014 @ 6:29 pm Alysse Heiler

Toddlers want to be carried as much as babies do so this is a wonderful product!

  25. December 5, 2014 @ 2:02 pm Corinne

Looks like it’d be so handy for travel when it’s too cumbersome to try and bring a pram/stroller along. Plus love the storage!

  26. December 5, 2014 @ 10:58 am Annaliese

The phil&teds Parade Baby Carrier is the perfect carrier for my husband to carry our son around in!

  27. December 5, 2014 @ 8:40 am Natalie

This looks fantastic, however I agree with the note re no head support – most toddlers would fall asleep at some point on a long walk / day out, which is surely what this type of carrier is made for! But I love that it’s suitable for larger toddlers. I could see this being useful for bush walking, when the little ones legs can’t keep up.

  28. December 5, 2014 @ 7:29 am Ash

Looks like a very comfy carrier and I love the detachable toddlers backpack. Great review. Thanks.

  29. December 5, 2014 @ 1:17 am Rachel K

This is such a light and compact product made for travelling and super kind on my bad back. Perfect for “parading” my little one around in!

  30. December 4, 2014 @ 9:43 pm karina l

This would be perfect for taking the little one on our bush walks!
