REVIEW : PHIL&TEDS AIRLIGHT CARRIER

m4b-phil-and-teds-airlight-f

The phil&teds airlight baby carrier is a lightweight carrier designed for short trips.  It offers an inward-facing front carrying position and a back carrying position.  It’s suitable for your baby from newborn to 12kgs.

The phil&teds airlight carrier is made from a breathable cotton-blend fabric and comes in sand, aqua, leaf, orange, scarlet & black colours.

Price:  $69

Availability:  Baby Bunting with other phil&teds stockists to follow

We love …

  • smart front zipper design
  • lightweight & breathable fabric
  • compact fold
  • reasonable price

In use …
When you pull the contents out of the storage bag, your airlight carrier will come in 2 pieces, the carrier & the infant support.  You pull the body of the carrier out of the zippered pouch located in the waist strap.  The infant insert clips into that same pouch.airlight_padded_insert

The carrier is quite easy to put on, clip the waist strap around your waist, slide the shoulder straps on andclip the carrier at the back.  The waist strap, shoulder straps and back clip are all adjustable.  (Reverse the carrier for the back carrying position.)

Getting your baby into the airlight’s front carrying positions is as easy as it gets.  You unzip the front, slide your baby’s legs in & zip you baby up & into the carrier.  For your infant, clip in the infant support before you place them in the carrier, then zip them all the way up and over their head to provide them with head support, always ensuring their face is clear and air is circulating.

For an older baby (who can hold up their own head), zip up to the top of their neck (facing inward) or chest (facing outward).  The zip has a safety lock so it won’t come undone.

The back carrying position is a bit trickier.  You really need a second pair of hands to place your baby in and zip them up.  Especially if you have wriggly or sleeping baby.

You’ll get up to 2 hours of comfortable carrying time from the phil&teds airlight carrier, depending on your stamina & baby’s size  Because the airlight carrier is made of lightweight cotton & features plenty of ventilation panels, it’s pretty cool to wear.

phil-teds-airlight-compactWhen the fun is over, the phil&teds airlight carrier rolls back into it’s own little waist strap pouch.   If you’re also using the infant insert, you can pop both carrier & insert back into the airlight’s storage bag.

The phil&teds airlight baby carrier is machine washable and dries quite quickly.  It would be a great option for the pool or beach (keeping in mind that any wear & tear caused by wearing it in the water would not be covered by warranty).

Talking warranty, the airlight carrier is great quality with nice strong clips & buckles.  The fabric & ventilation panels, though lightweight, is durable.  The phil&teds airlight will last at least you at least a couple of babies.

Consider this …
The phil&teds airlight carrier is made for short trips.  To keep it lightweight, phil&teds have minimised the padding & support.  If you have a larger baby & need to carry them for periods of over an hour or so, you might want to invest in a carrier with more padding & back support.
The airlight carrier is designed for small to large sized mums & small to medium sized dads.  If you’re on the larger size, I suggest you try the phil&teds airlight for size before you purchase it.

The verdict …
What you  see is what you get with the phil&teds airlight carrier.  It’s small & simple and perfect for short trips, travel and outdoor activities and/or climates where a ventilated carrier is more comfortable.

Airlight carrier would make carrying a baby easier. Breathable fabric is good for baby, especially in warm summer and light weight is good for parents, less burden.
