In use …

Out-of-the-box, the Licetec V-Comb is easy to assemble and it’s ready to go.  It uses a single-use filter which clips into the unit.

To prepare, comb through your child’s hair to ensure there are no knots and snags.  Hair should be dry, however, Licetec suggest you use a little leave-in conditioner in your child’s hair if they have long, thick or curly hair (keeping in mind that wet hair will damage the comb).  This will help the comb slide through their hair.
The Licetec V-Comb acts like a little vacuum, the comb lifts the lice & eggs out of the hair and the vacuum sucks them out and into the capture filter for disposal.  The V-Comb features an adjustable comb so you can get it close to your child’s scalp from every angle.  You’ll need to part your child’s hair into sections no thicker than the V-Comb’s comb and treat each section thoroughly, paying particular attention to the nape of the neck and behind the ears (these are the warmest areas & lice like them the most).
When you’ve finished your treatment it’s important to quickly remove the filter, cap it and dispose of it.  Also, you need to clean the combs teeth to ensure there are no nits left it in it.  The V-Comb features a UV light that illuminates to the lice in the filter an you can see what’s coming out (which is quite gross).
One of the advantages of the Licetec V-Comb is that you don’t need to use any chemicals to kill the lice first.  So the V-Comb is suitable for children of all ages and can be used by pregnant and breast feeding mums.  Also, there’s no limit on the number of times you can use the V-Comb treatment on your child (vs. chemical treatments) so you can use it to prevent infestations, which is particularly useful if you have only one child with an infestation but need to treat the whole family; just in case.
Our mini-tester, who likes to toss her long curly hair around and regularly grows ‘nit cities’, finds the teeth of the V-Comb closer than regular nit combs so she needs to prepare her hair carefully and comb out all snags and loose hair.  She finds that it still takes a long time to treat her hair but likes that she could do it in front of the TV.  She likes it that the V-Comb is quiet and it is a treatment option that doesn’t stink, sting or leave an oily residue in her hair like some of other lice treatments she’s used.
Our mini-tester’s  mum finds, that while the V-Comb was a little harder to pull through her daughter’s hair than a standard lice comb, she can adjust the comb to find the bet angle to get close to the scalp.  She likes it that she could take a break for a coffee when she has nit fatigue (she leaves the V-Comb on, so the lice can’t escape).  She also liked that she could do a quick follow-up treatment each day before or after school, just to make sure the lice life-cycle is broken.
And this is their result …

Consider this …

The Licetec V-Comb comes with 4 single use filters.  It’s worth stocking up with some filters when you buy your comb.  They cost approximately $12 for a pack of 8.
Initially, the V-Comb costs more than a chemical lice treatment.  However, after 4 single treatments, you’ll break even with each subsequent treatment costing $1.50 or so.
All headlice treatments take time & effort; a minimum of an initial treatment, a follow up treatment in 2 days and a final treatment in 7 days. As with any headlice treatment, if you don’t get all the lice, nymphs and eggs, infestation will reoccur, so the effectiveness of the V-Comb is only as good as the effort you put into breaking the lice lifecycle.  The advantage of the V-Comb is that you’re not limited in the number of treatments and you can use it as a preventative measure.

The verdict …

The one club you don’t want your child to join at school, its the lice club!  But they all do (& many regularly).  It’s those times when you need an option like the V-Comb to make treatment as easy & effective as possible.
The Licetec V-Comb offers a great alternative to traditional chemical treatments and is a cost-effective alternative.
