The Kiinde Twist is the first breast milk storage system that allows you to pump breast milk directly into storage pouches, then click the pouches into Kiinde squeeze feeding bottles.

All components of the Kiinde system are BPA & toxin free. At the moment Kiinde pouches come in 175 ml size. A larger sized pouch will be available shortly.

The Kiinde Twist system is designed for breast milk but is equally suitable for formula.

This review is based on the Kiinde Twist Breastfeeding Starter Kit which includes pouches, breast pump adaptors, a keeper breast milk pouch holder, 2 x squeeze baby bottles, slow, medium & fast Active-Latch nipples & 2 nipple cleaning brushes.

Price:  $79.95

We love …

  • pump, store & feed from one pouch
  • easy breast milk storage
  • for breast milk & first foods
  • very easy to clean

In use …
To start off using your Kiinde Twist system, dig into the Starter Kit box & find the breast pump adaptors. You’ll find an adaptor to fit all different types of breast pumps, including yours. Your pre-sterislied Kiinde pouch will screw straight onto the adaptor, ready to go. If you are using a manual pump like we did, fit your pouch into one of the Kiinde squeeze bottles so you can hold onto it as you pump.

Once your pouch is full, cap it & it’s ready to be stored in your fridge or freezer in the Kiinde keeper. The keeper will hold up to 10 pouches for easy access. You can track how much you are pumping & feeding using the measure on the pouch. You can also write the date and any other details on the pouch with a marker. The 175ml size is a standard feed size for babies up to 6 months old.

When it’s dinner time select your pouch and defrost it in the fridge or in a bath of hot water.  To prepare your bottle, fit the pouch into the squeeze bottle then squeeze any air out of the pouch, add the Kiinde Active-Latch nipple and you are ready to go. Squeezing the air out of the pouch will create a vacuum which acts the same way as the anti-colic vents you find in traditional baby bottles.

The Kiinde Active-Latch nipple comes in a single piece (no ring & teat) and is larger than standard nipples. The soft silicone nipple feels like a breast which is great when you are swapping between breast & bottle feeding. Once sterilised the nipple is kept in its own case until it’s ready to use. Then you click the nipple into the top of the pouch while it’s in its case, then pull the case off to expose the nipple.

Cleaning the Kiinde Twist squeeze bottles & teats is easy. The pouch is disposable (& recyclable), the squeeze bottle can go straight in the dishwasher or get a quick rinse under the hot water tap. The Active-Latch nipple is the only part of the Twist system that needs sterlising.

The Kiinde Twist system is also compatible with the new Kiinde Foodii system. The Foodii starter kit contains all the accessories you need to use the Kiinde pouches & storage system to store & feed first foods including attachable spoons & spouts.kiinde-twist-breastmilk-storage

Consider this …
Kiinde pouches are designed to be disposable. At between 70 cents & $1 per pouch this can make the Kiinde Twist system may seem a little expensive especially if you are using them for several feeds a day however regular pumping mums and exclusive pumpers will no doubt find this system invaluable.

Being the rebels that we are we wanted to see if it was possible to reuse the pouches. After a feed the pouches are easy to clean, but don’t dry so well. If you were determined, you could sterilise the pouches in a pot of boiling water for reuse. Like other, similar, food pouches on the market, I’d suggest you discard them after 5 uses if using them for food.  If used for breastmilk it may be best to follow the Kiinde guidelines which state the pouches are single use only.

Kiinde Twist pouches are not microwavable. This didn’t bother me as I prefer to use hot water to warm the contents. You can also use the Kiinde Kozii breastmilk and bottle warmer.

The verdict …
The Kiinde Twist system is a very well designed range of products that offer an alternative to traditional bottles, particularly improving milk storage & ease of use in preparing & cleaning baby bottles.

The extension of the product range with the Kozii warmer and Foodii food accessories make the Kiinde range even more versatile.

What a fabulous prize! I’m still getting used to being a new mum, and am getting desperate to find ways of increasing milk supply for a baby who’s struggling to put on weight. I’ve been expressing no end, but juggling storage and bottles has become tricky. It seems to me that Kiinde is the perfect solution, providing a way of being so much more organised.
