It only took a few minutes to set up our tester My Free 4 in 1 scooter (we set ours up for a 19 month old daredevil) and we were ready to hit the pavement.
Seeing it constructed, I had some initial concerns about the Globber My Free 4 in 1. Where was my toddler going to put his feet? Was he strong enough to hold on without a harness. Could I steer it using the parent handle?
Being cautious, I decided we’d try a short trip to visit the bunnies up the road. I didn’t worry about not having a helmet, I thoughts we’d probably spend more time walking than riding the scooter. I thought, we’d have to spend a bit of time before we could use it for more than a few minutes at a time.
I was wrong … our little toddler tester was on the scooter and whizzing down the road (with me at the other end of the parent handle) quicker than you could say ‘how’s your father’. He cottoned on that he needed to tuck his feet in under the seat and his grip was tight, not even a hint of the wobbles. (It probably helps that we have bikes and scooters for older kids and he’s a big ride-on fan. But I was still surprised at how quickly and confidently our little tester took to the My Free 4 in 1.)
So we went to visit the bunnies, then he wanted more. So we went to the shops to get some rolls for lunch, then he wanted more. So we took the Gloober My Free 4 in 1 scooter to school pick-up and after-school play and all the kids had a great time with it (in all it’s configurations and from 16 months to 7 years).
As a bigger kids 3 wheel scooter, the Globber My Free 4 in 1 scooter has a front wheel lock to make it easier for beginners. And the handle bar adjusts to 4 different heights. It’s also quite easy to convert the My Free 4 in 1 to suit different children’s needs.
Finally, all the components of the Globber My Free 4 in 1 scooter are great quality. I expect this scooter will make it through all sorts of weather
and outdoor conditions and survive years of use.
Consider this …
The best way to use the handlebar as a parents handle is to have the seat a little higher (so your toddler has plenty of room to tuck their feet under). But we found having the seat higher made it harder for our toddler tester to use the My Free 4 in 1 scooter as an independent ride-on.
With the parent handle, the steering is OK. Good enough to get you around a curve, but not a bend. With bigger kids riding the Globber in scooter mode, this is not a problem. (Editor’s note: we found this improved significantly as we became more confident in our little tester’s ability to balance on the seat – now we can manage all but very sharp corners.)
The deck of the Globber My Free 4 in 1 is a bit larger than most pre-school scooters. It’s also quite a bit stronger.
Get a helmet for your toddler, you can go faster with this scooter than you might expect.
The verdict …
Dad and big brother can’t wait to hit the pavements with our little tester and the Globber My Free 4 in 1 scooter. There’s even talk of investing in a parent sized scooter so we can go scooting as a family! (And a helmet – we’re getting a tiny helmet.)
It’s great that the Globber My Free 4 in 1 scooter will last for years, right up to when our little tester is a big boy, scooting off to school.
