REVIEW : BABYBJORN CRADLE

baby-bjorn-cradle

The BabyBjorn Cradle is a compact and simple little bassinet that’s suitable from birth until your baby can sit up (approximately 6 months).

The bassinet lining itself is made from a polyester mesh, the mattress is made of polyether with a cotton cover. The legs are made of wood & steel and the little feet have caps so they don’t scratch your floor.

It’s legs are designed to produce a gentle rocking action.

We love …

  • quality
  • compact
  • easy to assemble
  • see-through mesh sides

In use …
The BabyBjorn Cradle is very easy to assemble. The legs are attached, all you need to do is fix them in place with the supplied screws & allen key. Once assembled you can see what a neat little unit it is. It will fit comfortably in mum & dad’s room next to, or at the foot of your bed.

One of the design features I really like about the BabyBjorn Bassinet is the mesh sides. Not only is the fabric breathable but you can also see your baby sleeping soundly, it’s very comforting. Also the BabyBjorn bassinet is quite low so you can look into it from a standard height bed.

Some parents might find the mattress a little thin & hard, however, it’s actually perfectly fitting and just right for a back sleeping baby. Unfortunately there are no bassinet safety standards in Australia, however, Sids and Kids publish the following guidelines for bassinets …

· Ensure that it has a wide stable base and that it is placed on a stable surface.
· Remove all ribbons and ties to prevent strangulation.
· The sides should be at least 300mm high measured from the top of the mattress base.
· Use a firm mattress that is a snug fit and is not thicker than 75mm.

The BabyBjorn Cradle meets all of them. Particularly the nice deep sides.

The BabyBjorn Cradle has a light bouncing motion to comfort your baby. It’s designed so your baby’s movements gently rock the bassinet but stop once your baby has fallen asleep. Also, because it’s quite light & compact its easy to move around the house.

The bassinet mesh lining can be removed and gently washed in your washing machine. You can also wash the mattress.

With canopy …
As an optional extra you can purchase a canopy for your BabyBjorn Cradle. It attaches easily to either end and the net completely covers the whole bassinet. It’s great if you need to keep our insects in summer or deter household pets. It’s also great to diffuse light. The net itself is short so your baby can’t pull it down or around itself.

Consider this …
It’s annoying that the Cradle’s mattress is slightly smaller than the average bassinet. You can get BabyBjorn branded fitted sheets but they only come in white cotton & are reasonably expensive. If you wanted to use another branded bassinet protector or sheets you could pin them tightly at the bottom. Just make sure the mattress & sheets fit tightly.

The BabyBjorn Cradle and all its accessories are of premium design & quality. This equates to expensive. The good news is that if you look after it, not only will it accommodate your family as it grows but you should be able to get a decent second hand price when it’s time for it to go to a new home.

The verdict …
BabyBjorn proves that simple is best with the design of the Cradle. It’s very well designed for its purpose plus it looks great.
