We’ve all done it, measured ourselves against other mums and asked ourselves if we’re doing it right. Particularly when it comes to breastfeeding. Dr Jacqueline Kempt’s recent research finds that, when it comes to breastfeeding, there is no norm. Every mother’s & baby’s feeding relationship is unique to them.
The findings (which are summarised in the snazzy info graphic below – click to see it at full size) are fascinating because they show, not only the huge differences in normal breastfeeding patterns between different mums & their babies, but also the differences in the babies themselves, depending on their particular needs at different times.
The great news is that, no longer, do mums need to worry about their milk supply, if their baby is getting enough milk & if they are doing is right. Generally, no matter how different their breastfeeding pattern is to the mum sitting beside them, mums are doing a great job at feeding their baby & knowing what’s right for them.
Thanks to Medela for sharing this new research with us.
