I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Jamie Oliver’s new cookbook for Christmas this year. While a cook book titled Everyday Superfoods usually wouldn’t grab my attention, the fact that every single recipe in there is gestational diabetes friendly certainly does!
Jamie Oliver is on another crusade and this time it’s focused on superfoods. In particular healthy everyday meals that are delicious.
The great news for mums-to-be with gestational diabetes (like myself), is that every meal in Oliver’s Everyday Superfoods fits within the professionally recommended levels of carbs, protein and dairy that both keep you full and keep your blood sugar readings at the right level.
Not to mention there are some terrific recipes in there!
But it’s not only the right balance of food that’s great for mums-to-be with gestational diabetes. But in Everyday Superfoods, each recipe has the nutritional facts underneath so you know exactly how many carbs you are eating per serve (with most recipes being between 1 & 2 servings of carbs per meal).
Plus, there’s good quality nutritional information in the back of Oliver’s cookbook including a section titled Celebrating Good Carbohydrates, which explains, in really simple way, how carbs work and why eating the right balance of carbs is essential for good health.
Of course, Everyday Superfoods is also great for any mum who is conscious about what they eat and their general health & wellbeing (and there’s hardly any kale, so don’t be fooled by the title!).
Everyday Superfoods is priced at around $36 (depending on where you buy it) and is widely available online and in most department and bookstores.
Tonight hubby is making Tasty Samosas, 1 serve of carbs each. Yum!
